Residents are encouraged to nominate a local hero or organisation and help celebrate those making an extraordinary difference in the community.
Sometimes heroism is found in everyday acts of kindness, generosity and community spirit while in other cases, it is demonstrated in a single selfless moment when someone puts the needs and safety of others before their own.
Council is calling on residents to nominate the people who inspire them, whether it is a neighbour, friend, colleague, sporting club member or volunteer whose efforts deserve to be recognised.
By submitting a nomination for the 2027 Australia Day Awards, community members can help ensure the Northern Beaches’ everyday heroes receive the acknowledgement they have earned through their dedication, service and commitment to others.
There are 7 award categories including:
- Citizen of the Year
- Senior Citizen of the Year (65 years and over)
- Young Citizen of the Year (under 25 years)
- Sportsperson of the Year
- Community Event of the Year
- Community Group of the Year
- Outstanding Community Service Award

Interested in being part of the Australia Day Awards judging panel?
We’re seeking expressions of interest from residents to fill community positions on the Australia Day Awards Assessment Panel. The purpose of the panel is to provide independent advice to Council on selecting the award recipients.
The awards will be presented in a ceremony to be held in January 2027.
