Manly will remain home to a major international surfing competition in 2018 with the Vissla Sydney Pro World Surf League Qualifying Series announced today.
With 6,000 QS points up for grabs, some of the world’s best surfers will be in attendance as they look to kick off their 2018 campaign in style when the event gets underway from 24 February – 4 March.
Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan announced the event with local MP James Griffin, Surfing NSW CEO Luke Madden, seven time world surfing champion Layne Beachley and a host of up and coming groms excited to be kicking off their 2018 campaigns by competing at home in front of friends and family.
Manly is the home of surfing and has a proud history as a major surfing destination – playing host to the first known body surfing contest in 1908 and the first World Surfboard Riding Championships in 1964.
Manly-Freshwater also has the honour of being listed as Australia’s first World Surfing Reserve – recognising the historical, cultural, economic and ecological significance of our iconic area.
And the Beaches’ boasts a plethora of international surfing legends.
Events like this don’t just help foster local talent but are a great attraction for local and international visitors and provide important opportunities for our local business.
