The Northern Beaches Citizen of the Year Award goes to a person who has made an outstanding contribution to our local community. This year, Christian Barwell won the accolade for his fantastic work making the Northern Beaches a more inclusive place for people living with disability.

Christian co-founded the charity Up & Over, which provides young people living with disability activities and events which are ‘out of the box’ from ice skating and visits to the zoo to weekends away and skydiving.

Christian was inspired to make a difference after seeing his sister who has a disability interact with services. He was inspired to create an organisation that gave people living with disability access to new opportunities and the chance to extend their limits of ability.

Nominations are now open for next year’s Australia Day Awards – nominate an outstanding person you know today.
