This week Mayor Michael Regan topped the Manly Daily’s Top 20 Most Influential People, illustrating the significance of the decisions being made by the Council every month.

The Daily said the Mayor “gained the number one position because he has the most influence over the things that most impact the day-to-day lives of peninsula residents.

He is answerable to almost 270,000 residents and…oversees an almost half billion dollar budget,” the Manly Daily said.

They also referred to the Mayor’s advocacy for the community on planning laws and development and how the decisions he and the Council make impact on footpaths, rubbish collection and rezoning.

(Of course we’d add Council also makes an impact by keeping our beaches safe, running our libraries, childcare and youth services, as well as looking after all our playgrounds, parks and reserves and protecting our creeks, waterways and bushland – among many other things!)

Others who made the cut include experts in the field of sport, business, fashion and the law. Local Area Commander, Superintendent Dave Darcy took the number 2 spot, seven-time world surfing champion Layne Beachley was at 4 and journalist Tracey Spicer was named as the tenth most influential person.

Our Mayor’s inclusion at the top of the list is a testament to the early success of the amalgamated council - working well, making tough decisions and delivering for our community. We continue to integrate our systems, processes and people as we work towards making the Northern Beaches even better every day.
