1. Beach Parking Permits have gone digital
Northern Beaches Beach Parking Permits move to a fully digital system from 1 July replacing physical windscreen stickers. That means no more lost or damaged stickers, a reduction in the misuse of permits, less plastic waste and ultimately a financial saving for ratepayers.
2. Your current sticker still works until 31 August
Physical permits remain valid until 31 August, giving plenty of time for more than 208,000 permits to transition to the new system.
3. You can apply online through the new vPermit portal
Residents and ratepayers will apply for, manage and renew their permits online using vPermit, a secure digital platform.
4. Your number plate becomes your permit
No windscreen sticker needed. Your permit is linked directly to your vehicle registration.
5. Most ratepayers only need to apply once every three years
As a ratepayer accessing your two free permits, you’ll apply once and won’t need to again for three years, unless your circumstances change. For paid permits, you will apply annually.
7. The rules around who can get a permit haven’t changed
The existing policy framework remains the same:
- ratepayers: 2 free permits/rateable property, 2 available for purchase
- non-ratepayer residents: 2 available for purchase for Northern Beaches residents
- a total of 4 permits are available for each rateable property
7. There are a limited number of changes available
You can update your registration details a limited number of times online if you buy a new car or it is stolen or written off. For free Beach Parking Permits, there is a maximum 6 allocated changes over the 3 years (an average 2 per year). For annual paid Beach Parking Permits, you can change your vehicle registration a maximum of 2 times in a year
8. The system verifies your details automatically
Most eligible permits are approved immediately. Depending on your permit type, you may need a valid email address, rates notice, vehicle registration details, NSW Driver Licence or other proof of address document.
You have 5 attempts to add your documents in the system. If there are any issues, you may need to do a manual verification process where Council staff sight your documents and approve your permit. You can do this online in the vPermit system or in person at a Customer Service Centre.
9. Support is available online and in person
Watch the how‑to video and read the Frequently Asked Questions. Or you can call or visit one of our Customer Service Centres.
The Dee Why Customer Service Centre will also open on Saturdays, 9am to1pm, throughout July to assist anyone who can’t visit during office hours.
10. Where you can use your Beach Parking Permit remains the same
Vehicles with a valid Beach Parking Permit may park for free in a range of beach carparks. Check the list and map to ensure you are covered for your favourite beach.
