Northern Beaches Council will donate all profits from the Sun Run on 1 February to wildlife rescue agency WIRES in a Run for Relief initiative.
As well, participants registering for the event have the option of donating to WIRES when they sign up.
Mayor Michael Regan said Council is committed to supporting all those who are working tirelessly to help with bushfire recovery efforts.
“We have all read the terrible stories about the enormous loss of wildlife and seen the pictures of animals struggling in the wake of the fires. It’s important we help the wildlife support agencies who work on the frontline helping animal communities recover from bushfire disaster.
"So, Run for Relief with us and enter the Sun Run, knowing all proceeds will be going towards such a great cause to help get our country back on its feet."
Council is partnering with the Manly Life Saving Club to continue staging one of Sydney’s most popular family-friendly community sporting weekends, the Sun Run and Cole Classic.
The Cole Classic run by the Manly Life Saving Club raises funds for the Club to fund vital rescue equipment and to ensure Manly is a safe place to swim via its surf life saving activities and beach safety education programs for members and the community.
