Northern Beaches Council announced today that a benefit concert will be held to raise money for those affected by bushfires as well as a thank you reception for local RFS volunteers.
Mayor Michael Regan said he had been inundated by members of the community wanting to help.
"What a great community we have here on the Northern Beaches - seeing the devastation in other parts of the state and wanting to reach out," he said.
"The message we are getting from state agencies and welfare organisations is that the best way to help at the moment is to donate to bushfire appeals being run by those like the Red Cross.
"The crisis is far from over and the communities affected have a long time of recovery ahead.
“The best thing we can all do right now is support the agencies at the front line by making cash donations so they can use it where it is needed most.
"In the meantime at Council we are in the early stages of planning a benefit concert to help with those fundraising efforts.
"And once the fire danger is over we'll also be looking at honouring all our local volunteers for the incredible efforts they have put in.
"We'll release more details in the coming weeks."
