In response to outreach to our drought-affected sister cities offering our support, the Mayor of Gunnedah Shire, Clr Jamie Chaffey, said it would really help if we’d consider shopping at regional businesses in the lead up to Christmas.
The #buyfromthebush initiative the Mayor says is a new social media campaign to encourage people in the city to buy remotely this Christmas.
“Regional small businesses largely depend on money coming from the agricultural industry which is diminishing in the drought," Clr Chaffey said.
"If regional and rural small business had the support of those in the city when purchasing goods, not only this Christmas but throughout the entire year, then it is more likely that shops and businesses will be able to remain open,” he says.
