While players are dusting off their cricket bats and signing up for competitions, Council crews are preparing more than 120 sportsfields for another busy season of community sport.

The annual changeover takes around 2 weeks, ensuring fields are ready for players to hit the ground running from 12 September.

The works include:

• removing 110 goal posts and 50 netball posts
• line marking 90 cricket and practice pitches, and 59 touch footy, baseball, softball and summer soccer fields
• erecting 14 baseball back nets
• uncovering 15 cricket pitches.

Renovation works including top dressing, fertilising and returfing are also taking place.

During the season, fields are checked regularly to make sure they’re suitable for play, especially during wet weather.
