The renewal and upgrade of Bayview Wharf and baths is a step closer, with essential maintenance of the wharf’s groyne now complete.

The 40-metre heritage barrier deteriorated due to erosion and ground movement, leading Council to close the area and carry out essential maintenance works.

The groyne, which includes concrete steps on the eastern side and a basalt rock revetment on the western side, was replaced on a like-for-like basis ensuring the long-term structural stability and laying the foundation for the broader upgrades.  

Upgrades to the wharf and long-awaited return of the tidal pool, which had been unusable since 2007, commence in September along with the construction of a new ramp, gangway and floating pontoon at the northern end of the wharf, beyond the groyne.

The project will restore the much-loved waterfront area while delivering improved safety, accessibility, and recreational opportunities. The project is expected to be completed in time for summer 2026, weather permitting.

Works on the groyne is funded by Council’s Special Variation to rates while the remaining works are funded by the NSW Government’s Boating Infrastructure for Communities grant.

This is not the only wharf to get an upgrade with works currently underway at Mackerel Beach to meet current engineering standards and improve accessibility for users and the local community.
