At Northern Beaches Council, integrity is one of our core values. We’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels safe to report wrongdoing and help keep our organisation honest and accountable.

What is a Public Interest Disclosure (PID)?

The Public Interest Disclosures Act 2022 is designed to protect staff and encourage people to speak up about serious wrongdoing in the public sector. If you report wrongdoing under this Act, it’s called a Public Interest Disclosure (PID).

Making a PID means you’re protected from things like intimidation, unfair treatment, or legal action. The goal is to create a safe environment where everyone feels confident to report concerns.

Examples of serious wrongdoing include:

  • Corrupt conduct
  • Maladministration
  • Serious and substantial waste of public money
  • Breaches of the GIPA Act
  • Local government pecuniary interest contraventions

How do I make a report?

You can report wrongdoing in writing or verbally to any staff member at Level 5 or above (Team Leader, Manager, Executive Manager, Director, CEO), Nominated Disclosure Officer, or the Internal Ombudsman.
