At the Council meeting on 16 October 2018 Council agreed to the following funding and fee waivers through the Events Grants Program 2018/19, to support organisations to hold community events on the Northern Beaches.

Surfers Healing Australia

Surfers Healing is a program that introduces the unique experience of surfing to children on the autism spectrum, allowing them to tap into the tranquillity of the ocean to help calm the sensory overload that can often accompany autism. This program gives children with autism and their families a fun, engaging day at the beach, while also defying the status quo and including children with autism in an activity they don’t usually get to be part of.

Mona Vale Chamber of Commerce

Autumn Festival 2019

Autumn Festival is a jazz music festival with a variety of general and food stalls operated by local businesses. It will comprise all-day stage performances, 60 stallholders and exciting amusements. A stage will be set up on the end of the road, two rows of stalls will be lined up across the road, and amusements will be positioned on the other end. The shops along Bungan street will be encouraged to set up in front of their store and decorate their shops to match the festivities. The event is expected to attract 2,000 people to Mona Vale, presenting a great opportunity for local businesses to drive both sales and consumer awareness.

The Centenary of Armistice Day 2018

Our project aims to bring together the many descendants of those from our local community who provided service to Australia in World War 1 and to mark the Centenary of their service with a major cultural activity in both Jacka Park and the Soldiers Avenue of Honour.

Hands On Day Collaroy 2019

The DSA Hands on Day at Collaroy has been running for 32 years and is the largest disability surfing event in the Southern Hemisphere. All disabilities are catered for on our Hands on Days and we draw our volunteers from the local community and the greater Sydney region.

Bard on the Beach Avalon 2019

In 2019, Bard On The Beach will be bringing The Life and Death of King John and The Comedy of Errors by William Shakespeare, to Dunbar Park.

Small Shift

Seaforth Piazza Activation

Small Shift will partner with Street Growth (NFP) to activate Seaforth Piazza, with quick and easy activation ideas that can be delivered over a weekend by the locals and our team. If possible, we will hire people with barriers to employment (e.g. long-term unemployed, people with illness and disabilities etc.) on a casual basis to provide opportunities to up skill and contribute to the project.

SO Manly

Summer Film Soiree

The event will be a community gathering to engage with a local environmental issue and learn more about ways to live a sustainable lifestyle. We will connect with a documentary movie screening, learn about the amount of plastic pollution in our local area and express the issue through art. There will be opportunities to make a pledge to improve this situation and ask questions from a panel of speakers before the movie. There will be approximately 200 attendees.

Gig Buddies Northern Beaches Hub Launch

Gig Buddies Sydney is holding a launch party to celebrate the opening of a Gig Buddies information hub in the Northern Beaches LGA, and to facilitate community engagement with more adults with a disability, potential volunteers and other community groups as well as local venues and the public. Gig Buddies has been in operation for over 3 years and during this time has been successful in recruiting and pairing Buddies (adults with a learning disability and autism) and volunteers in the area. The event will be open to all Northern Beaches buddies and volunteers, community and Council as well as those who are interested in our work.

Northern Beaches Interchange

The Pittwater Paddle

The Pittwater Paddle is a community paddling event that challenges participants to paddle (kayak, SUP, paddle board or ski) an 8.4km course in Sydney’s beautiful Pittwater. This event begins in Winnererremy Bay. Participants then paddle out towards Scotland Island, circumnavigate Scotland Island and paddle back to Winnererremy Bay. There will also be running a series of sprint races this year for more experienced paddlers. For non-paddlers there will be food, refreshments and entertainment available at Rowland Reserve, Mona Vale.

Cure Brain Cancer Foundation

Walk4BrainCancer Manly

Walk4BrainCancer Manly hosts 1000 people walking to raise money to find a cure for brain cancer. Originally started by Bec Lucas whose father died in 2010 from brain cancer, the walk involves the Manly community to come together to raise awareness of the cause. The event begins early on Sunday 21 October with walkers finishing in Curl Curl. Once walkers arrive, they are welcomed by live music, sausage sizzle, jumping castle, kindy farm and a community celebration.

Tibetan Friendship Group

Pray for World Peace

The Pray for World Peace event is held annually by the Tibetan Friendship Group in celebration of World Peace Day. The purpose of the event is to unite the community through prayers, performances, food, speeches by cultural and religious spokespeople, and more. The event will be held in the evening time. A light dinner will be served as well.

Lifeline Northern Beaches

Lifeline Northern Beaches Classic

The 2019 Lifeline Classic will return in April 2019 and is open to anyone and everyone – this is the premier event and aims to raise awareness of Lifeline, and the many services they provide to reduce suicide on the Northern Beaches. The event will take on a ‘mental health festival’ feel with a number of other mental health charities involved building on the success of co-charity involvement of the Event in 2018 including Black Dog, Headspace and Northern Sydney Health, Waves of Wellness and Walk and talk.

Eurofest 2019 – Viva Europa

Eurofest is a multicultural festival which has been held at Ararat Reserve since 1992. In 2019, as part of the festival, we hope to start a programme called Viva Europa. Since its inception Eurofest has existed to showcase European culture and to highlight cross cultural relations. A large part of the festival is the entertainment program, which has always consisted of folkloric dance and music representing many European countries.

The Northern Beaches Music Festival is an annual, not for profit, community based music festival that has been successfully operating annually since 2011. It has been created and operated through the amalgamation of four not for profit music and folk clubs on the Northern Beaches, celebrating the richness of multicultural food, music, dance and customs, creating an opportunity to unite the community in a positive, fun, cross-generational and creative way.

Manly Rotary Club

10th Annual Manly Scenic Fun Run and Walk

A fund-raising fun run and festival for local charities, on Sunday May 5 2019, The event will be preceded and followed by festival atmosphere music, dancing, massage, fancy dress, photographs and other entertainment, and light refreshments, on the Corso beachfront plaza. Averaging between 1200-1600 in past years, but with significant enhancements to the routes and festivities being offered, and a related publicity drive, in excess of 2000 participants are expected.
