  • Penny Philpott

Councillor Philpott has lived in Frenchs Forest since building her home there in 1978. In 1981 she and her husband established the Redbacks Cricket Club, later to become the Wakehurst Redbacks. The Philpotts also created the Forest Youth Theatre Company when Glen Street Theatre opened in 1985. The theatre company performed at Glen Street for 20 years with over 35 productions.

In recognition of their services to the community they received Centenary of Federation medals for services to the arts. After retiring from a 30-year career in publishing, Cr Philpott went on to study for a DipFA at Northern Beaches TAFE before gaining a BVA (Hons) and Master of Fine Arts at Sydney University. In 2015 she was appointed Warringah Council’s artist in residence at Creative Space. One of her sculptures is permanently placed in the garden there. She continues to work as a sculptor, curator, teacher and toward her vision of the Northern Beaches becoming a creative hub in Sydney.
