Northern Beaches Christmas Window Competition 2023
Privacy notification
Some of the information that you are being asked to provide is personal information, such as your name and contact information. This information is being collected for the purpose of identification; communication in relation to; and promotion of this entry in the Northern Beaches Christmas Window Competition 2023 .
The information will be accessible by Council staff, and Manly Observer for purposes of the competition. It is voluntary to provide personal information on this form, however if the information is not provided, Council will not accept the entry in the competition. Applications to access or amend the personal information provided on this form may be made to Northern Beaches Council.
Eligibility
Entrants
- Entry to the competition is open to street level businesses located in the Northern Beaches Council local centres.
- Entry to the competition is free.
Voters
- Voting is open to all residents and visitors to the Northern Beaches local centres.
- Voting in the competition is free.
How to enter the competition
Businesses
- Voting for the Northern Beaches Christmas Window Competition 2023 opens 4 December and closes 9am, 18 December 2023.
- Registrations can be submitted via the QR code on the flyer issued to businesses, or via Councils’ website by 29 November 2023, 11.59pm, or email the Places team at places@northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au
- Council does not accept any responsibility for any late or lost registrations, or any other registrations not properly received.
- Council has absolute discretion; and reserves all rights; to verify the validity of all entries to the Northern Beaches Christmas Window Competition 2023 and to disqualify any entrant who tampers with the entry process or who submits an entry that is deemed to not be in accordance with these terms and conditions.
- Council will not be liable for any damages or loss suffered because of entry to the Northern Beaches Christmas Window Competition 2023.
- Each entrant releases, and hereby indemnifies to the full extent permitted by law, Council, its employees, agents, and assigns, from all liability which may arise from and/or all claims in connection with their entry, participation, or the prize in the Northern Beaches Christmas Window Competition 2023.
- Council may cancel or vary the competition at any time. Council will not be responsible for any loss or costs incurred by the entrant or businesses in relation to such cancellation or variation.
How to vote in the competition
General public
- Voting for the Northern Beaches Christmas Window Competition 2023 opens on 4 December and closes 9am, 18 December 2023.
- Votes can be submitted via the QR code displayed in the windows of the entrant of the competition or provided in any related promotional material.
- All votes must be received within the competition period 4-18 December 2023.
- Council does not accept any responsibility for any late or lost votes, or any other votes not properly received.
- Council has absolute discretion; and reserves all rights; to verify the validity of all votes in the Northern Beaches Christmas Window Competition 2023 and to disqualify any voter who tampers with the voting process or who submits a vote that is deemed to not be in accordance with these terms and conditions.

Entry requirements
- Entries must be ground floor window displays in an appropriate Christmas theme and will be judged on their use of colour and creativity. If the window is not suitable for a display, an indoor display is an option – email places@northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au if you wish to create an instore display only.
- Entries must not contain any name or other identifying material of an individual, without that individual’s consent; and must not contain any offensive, defamatory, or discriminatory content.
- Entries must not contain content which is: unlawful, inappropriate, constitutes harassment, defamatory, abusive, threatening, harmful, obscene, profane, sexually orientated, politically motivated, extreme views, racially offensive, demonstrating criminal behaviour, drug use, alcohol misuse, showing neglect, violence, or abuse of children. Council may refer any entries containing such content and the personal information of the user connected to any such video to any law enforcement agency at its sole discretion. It is Council’s absolute discretion to deem an entry unsuitable.
Photographs, video footage and licences
- Each entrant consents to Council and/or Manly Observer, taking photographs and/or video footage of the entrant for the purpose of the Northern Beaches Christmas Window Competition 2023 please note photography and filming may carry over to 2024.
- Each entrant consents, and provides an irrevocable licence, to Council and Manly Observer, using and publishing, at its discretion, their entry, including the name, and age of the entrant; and any photographs and/or video footage of the entrant for the purpose of the Northern Beaches Christmas Window Competition 2023 including but not limited to:
- Uploading of the entry of the Northern Beaches Christmas Window Competition 2023 on the Northern Beaches and Manly Observer website and social media pages.
- Promotion of the Northern Beaches Christmas Window Competition 2023 in the media, both print and online.
- Display and promotion at any event associated with the Northern Beaches Christmas Window Competition 20233.
- Other non-commercial promotional activities related to the functions of Council. - On all the above occasions, Council and Manly Observer will credit the entrant.
- Please limit the promotion of a business using logos and names etc within the window display. Any use or reference to businesses will in no way imply or be perceived to imply products or services from that business are superior or favoured by Council.
- Each entrant agrees that Council or Manly Observer will not provide any financial compensation, in relation to any use of their entry or any photographs or video footage of the entrant.
- Each entrant declares that he/she will not seek now or at any future time any financial compensation from Council or Manly Observer in relation to any use of this entry or any photographs or video footage of the entrant.
Awarding winners
- The winners of the Northern Beaches Christmas Window Competition 2023 will be determined as follows:
- The Northern Beaches Christmas Window Competition 2023 prizes are $1000 cash for each window display with the highest number of votes in each ward – limited to one business per ward area. In addition they will receive a professional photography shoot with images for use on socials and website.
- The winners of the Northern Beaches Christmas Window Competition 2023 will be contacted and announced on Council and Manly Observer website and socials on Tuesday 19 December 2023.
- The overall winner of the major media prize from the Manly Observer will be announced after midday on the 19 December 2023 as judged by the Mayor Sue Heins and the Editor of the Manly Observer.
- The winning businesses will be contacted for a photo opportunity with the Northern Beaches Council Mayor and the Manly Observer scheduled for Wednesday 20 December 2023.
- Winner’s names will be published on the Councils and Manly Observer’s website and social media pages.
- The prizes are non-transferable and not exchangeable. Prizes cannot be transferred or on-sold at a premium, offered as a prize or inducement, packaged, or otherwise used for advertising, promotional or other commercial purposes.
Complaints
If Council receives a complaint from a person/s featured in an entry, or a complaint about the entry, Council may reject / remove the entry from the competition at its absolute discretion. No correspondence will be entered into in relation to any decision of Council in relation to the Northern Beaches Window Competition 2023.
