What is the Active Play Program?
The Active Play program has been developed by Council as part of the Connecting All Through Play Program adopted by Council in December 2016 to promote active and inclusive play in our community through the delivery of infrastructure projects in our surf clubs and sporting facilities. Projects identified as a priority within this program will improve and increase the capacity of our existing facilities and improve accessibility and inclusiveness. This prioritisation process will also inform Council on projects for funding allocation through its future capital works program.
The Active Play Program is being funded jointly from the Stronger Communities Fund, which is an allocation from the NSW State Government as part of Council’s amalgamation and also from the Merger Savings Fund also established at amalgamation to capture and reallocate the savings resulting from the merger. Each fund will contribute $2 million for a total available fund of $4 million, split equally between the two streams, sporting facilities and surf clubs. Sporting facilities will have a minimum funding amount of $20,000 per project and surf clubs will have a minimum funding amount of $50,000 per project. There is no maximum funding amount for your application, however funds are limited to a maximum of $2 million per stream.
How do I apply?
The deadline for project submissions is Tuesday 13 June 2017, at 11am.
- Your project submission must be made online using the Active Play Project Proposal form.
Applicants must be an incorporated, not-for-profit organisation that is either a surf life saving club or sporting association located on the Northern Beaches. Individual sporting clubs can apply but must demonstrate their project has the support of a sporting association body with a letter of support. Projects must be for infrastructure on land that is under the care, control and management of the Northern Beaches Council. Proposals for sporting facilities must demonstrate that the project will increase participation and the capacity of existing facilities. Project proposals for surf clubs must improve accessibility and inclusiveness through the delivery of new or upgraded infrastructure.
Grant applications will be assessed and prioritised based on an overall project merit which will be based on the following three criteria; with Criteria 1 and 2 receiving a double weighted score and Criterion 3 receiving a single weighting.
- Address an identified community priority listed below;
- Value for money - applicant contribution, realistic budget, community benefit against investment; and
- Project readiness.
For this program, the Northern Beaches Council has identified the following community priorities:
- Improved inclusiveness
- Improved accessibility
- Increased participation in active play
- Increased capacity of existing facilities (more people, play more often).
